York Neal was born in 1838 in Tennessee, and on the Census Records he states his father was born in Tennessee and his mother was born in Virginia. The names of his parents is not known at this time. He md. Isabella in 1856 and together they had "16" children, of which Isabella in 1900 states 10 are living. The name "Neal" is found in varying years spelled Neal, Neel, Neil. Census takers were notorious for spelling a name different ways, even within a family unit.

This is my late husband's family line, I only did a cursory search.  York was his gggrandfather, born (?) but definitely lived on the Jones Plantation in Somerville ... his wife may have also been a slave there, not sure on this info.  My late father in law (William Neal) told me that there are family members (including York) buried up there in an old cemetery.  York and Isabella had a large family ... I found the info on census records which you can access online and/or at a family history center at the Somerville library (or where ever you live).

After the civil war York and his wife and children are found as sharecroppers on the same land where the Jones Plantation was ... which is why I believe they lived there before and after the war.

We have three children, two girls and a boy ... he had two brothers and a sister, one brother is also deceased as is his father.  His mom and the other son and daughter still live in Somerville, in fact there is a family reunion there this year on the 4th of July and there will be a lot of Neals there, including my youngest daughter.

His dad was born 9/22/25 (or 26?) ... he is the eldest son of Roosevelt (Hunter) Neal and Elizabeth (Anderson) Neal (they had 12 children) ... Hunter was the only son of his father Jim Neal and had several sisters (I believe they are all deceased).   Hunter was born in the early 1900's and died in the early 80's, not sure the exact dates, I am sorry .. like I said my info is sketchy.

My husband was born 2/14/48 and died 8/1/2010.   His obituary is not online, his death was sudden and it was a very difficult time for all of us and I just did not think (not that I was thinking at the time) to publish it in the paper.  He is buried here in Cleveland, Ohio.....he was born in Somerville, TN.  

I am going to check out your blog .. I have more info on disc, but I no longer have Family Tree Maker (my old computer crashed) so I have no way of uploading it.  It just had the names of York's children, etal.   Like I said I got the info from the census records.
